On 1 October, this DAFNE (Donors and Foundations Networks in Europe) initiative will be celebrated in twelve countries in order to increase society’s awareness of these organisations. For the first time, foundations from the entire continent will come together in a collaborative activity with simultaneous activities that showcase the value of their work. The Spanish Association of Foundationsis promoting this initiative in Spain.
The European foundation sector currently consists of approximately 110,000 foundations, which generate 750,000-1,000,000 direct jobs, with annual expenditure of 83-150 billion Euros. This growing sector has a significant impact on the EU’s socio-economic development.
European foundations operate in as many areas of activity as civil society needs and demands, including: culture, education and research, the environment, social services, health care, and international activities.
