Senegal's border extends over some 3171km, sharing borders with Mauritania, Gambia, Mali, Guinea Conakry, Guinea-Bissau and maritime borders. Due to its geographical position, Senegal is a country of transit, origin and destination of irregular migration. Smuggling of migrants, cross-border trafficking, including cocaine, counterfeit drugs and natural resources are some of the challenges Senegal faces.

The second phase of the POC Senegal project aims to consolidate the results acquired in the previous project and to strengthen the competencies of the internal security forces in transnational organised crime, including a regional and international perspective in the fight against illicit trafficking.

The project will work for three years with the specific objective of strengthening the capacities of the internal security forces in terms of prevention, intelligence and fight against smuggling at the border and organised crime, including smuggling of migrants, trafficking in human beings and terrorism in Senegal.
