The Preamble of the Constitution of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) establishes the protection of workers from diseases (occupational or general) and accidents at work as one of the basic principles. However, there is still a long way to go on occupational health and safety at the global level.
The Government of Georgia has identified the creation of healthy and safe working conditions in line with EU standards and the improvement of the occupational safety and health and labour rights observation system as one of the priorities to be fulfilled by 2030 in the Georgian Development Strategy - Vision 2030.
To achieve this goal, it is crucial to bring Georgia's Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) system in line with the EU acquis. Thus, the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons of the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs (MoIDPLHSA) and the Labour Inspection Office (LIO) of Georgia are responsible for leading the harmonisation process to comply with European OSH standards, improve and introduce new legislation and ensure its implementation in practice.
In this context, FIIAPP, together with the Slovak Regional Development Agency, RDA Senec-Pezinok, will contribute to this Twinning project focused on improving safe and healthy working environments in Georgia in line with EU standards and international best practices, being an important contribution to the development and implementation of OSH legislation in Georgia.
