The POC Senegal project has organised a workshop on police intervention techniques to combat migrant smuggling and human trafficking
The “Joint Operational Association” (POC, from its initials in French) is a project to combat irregular immigration, migrant smuggling and human trafficking in Senegal and it has organised a workshop on police intervention techniques and actions. The workshop was supported by the educational team at the National Police School (ENP) and the Multi-purpose Intervention Brigade (BIP).
For two weeks, the scientific committee made up of five experts from the BIP and the ENP participated in this workshop in which they worked on a document that will include police intervention techniques and will serve as a guide for the Senegalese police.
The workshop was closed by Pathé Gueye, the acting director of the National Police School and by the divisional commissioner Jean-Luc Gonzales who affirmed that the document worked upon can be considered as a teaching tool for the national police in professional intervention actions and techniques.
The project, which is jointly managed by FIIAPP, is led by CIVIPOL and financed by the European Union Emergency Trust Fund. Its objective is to contribute to the fight against the criminal networks linked to irregular migration in Senegal. In addition, it has three components: implementing an interdepartmental and inter-ministerial approach to combat migrant smuggling and human trafficking, providing operational support to the country’s security forces to combat migrant smuggling, and increasing regional cooperation.
