The MCBS project supports the optimisation of the regional information exchange system to address new risks presented by organised crime
The project on cross-border security between Haiti, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, which has European funding and is managed by FIIAPP, has three components: The first is the exchange of police information, the second involves monitoring maritime borders, while the third focuses on joint operations and training in investigative techniques to fight transnational organised crime, with an emphasis on human trafficking.
The first project activities have now begun, including agreeing to a roadmap to begin a comprehensive optimisation of the information exchange system used by these three countries. This work will be carried out through INTERPOL and AMERIPOL to avoid overlaps. The agreement is beneficial and will not only include the three countries, but also the European Union.
The agreement to work on the information exchange system will also address the risks posed by organised crime, both the usual ones, such as human, arms and drug trafficking, as well as any new risks that may arise, especially cybercrime.
Organised crime has no borders and it is very important and pertinent to work on these information exchange systems between different countries in order to make the fight more efficient and effective.
