The ECI Niger cooperation project has played the leading role in the 1st Conference of the Territory Directorate that is working to raise its visibility with the population
The Territorial Surveillance Directorate (DST, in its French acronym), in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), has organised its first open day in Niger. The objective, to show the public the functions of the DST and to improve the visibility of the institution.
The DST plays a fundamental role in the delivery of passports and the surveillance of the territory through the control of migratory traffic. This institution, which reports to the General Directorate of the National Police, is responsible for guaranteeing security at the borders and monitoring the territory, as well as controlling migratory flows and combating irregular migration.
One of the protagonists of the day was the project of the Joint Investigation Team (ECI-Niger), coordinated by the FIIAPP and in which the National Police of Niger, Spain and France participate. Likewise, the Special Investigations Division, framed within the DST, is the centre of operations and is made up of 28 Nigerien police officers who, in turn, have the support of three French and three Spanish police officers.
With European funding through the ECI-Niger project, support is given to the government of Niger and it contributes to the fight against criminal networks, irregular immigration, human trafficking and migrant smuggling. They carry it out on a permanent basis in Niamey, Agadez, Tahoua and Zinder, and occasionally in the territory of Konni, Arlit, Maradi and Gaya.
