EL PAcCTO: Support for Ameripol has organised a video conference between the National Police and Ameripol
Slowing down the spread of COVID-19 by sharing good practices from the European Union to the Latin American region in the context of a global pandemic. To this end, the National Police has shared, via a video conference, its experience in the development and adaptation of water cannons to be used in the fight against Covid-19.
The video conference was organised by Support for Ameripol project, a project funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP 68 specialised police units from 15 member countries of Ameripol, the Police Community of the Americas, were present at the virtual meeting.
The video conference allowed the Spanish Police to explain to the members of Ameripol the operation of a piece of equipment with nozzles that are adapted for water cannons and turn disinfecting solution into particles of the same size as the virus, allowing more effective sanitisation.
This equipment has been developed by the Chair of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alcalá de Henares through the European project Counterfog.
In addition, the Spanish police specialists also shared their experiences on use protocols, priority locations, frequency, necessary products, solution levels and percentages, use of individual protective equipment by specialised police units, user adaptation of the system to situations, and adaptation of devices to water cannons, fire trucks and cleaning services, among others.
Along with the National Police and the members of Ameripol, several representatives of the European Commission (DEVCO) and EUROPOL also took part in the video conference.
