From 16th to 18th September, Hammamet (Tunisia) is hosting the kick-off meeting of the MediPIET Project, the Public Health cooperation programme aimed at training epidemiology experts in 18 non-European Union (EU) countries in the Mediterranean basin. This project is being led by the FIIAPP and managed in a consortium with the ISCIII (Carlos III Public Health Institute).
This meeting will also include the closing of the preparation phase of same, led by the ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, an agency of the European Commission).
The main objectives of the event are to present the results of the two years of the MediPIET preparation phase, officially transition from the preparation phase to the implementation phase, which will be underway until 2017, and hold the kick-off of the project, which will implement the epidemiology training activities.
Some 120 people attended this meeting organized by the ECDC, the FIIAPP and the ISCIIIwith the support of the hosting partner of the project, the National Observatory of New and Emerging Diseases (ONME), which is under the Tunisian Ministry of Health.
Delegates from the 18 partner countries of the project, representatives of the Commission (DG DEVCO, DG SANCO and JRC), regional representatives of the UNICRIand the WHO, and other networks and health security projects in the Mediterranean region, such as ASPHER, EMPHNET, SHIPSAN, TEPHINET, EPISOUTH and MediLabSecure, also participated.
