The Algerian national nuclear, radiological, biological and chemical defence (NRBC) team receives training on legislation and a transport plan
The first SecTrans-Nas programme activity in Algeria has already taken shape in the form of training the Algerian national NRBC team. This training took place at the headquarters of the Algerian regional office of the NRBC centres of excellence in the European Union.
The project, funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP, focuses on safety and protection in the carriage of chemical and biological materials in North Africa and the Sahel region .
Over the two days of the meeting, the project was presented and issues such as analysing the country’s legal framework were discussed. In addition, the organizations and institutions involved in the problem arising from the carriage chemical and biological materials were identified.
The debate generated around the regulations revealed that Algeria already has a very comprehensive legislative framework around transporting dangerous substances, but that it would be of interest to adopt an Arabic version of the international agreements of the European agreement concerning the international carriage of dangerous goods by road (ADR) ).
Regarding the development of traffic plans, decisions were made about the traffic plan planned for the capital, and another plan will also be prepared for another city.
Attendees were invited to hold another meeting of the working group within six months, in which the project team will present its conclusions.
