The FIIAPP organises a study visit of police representatives from Haiti, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic to the Spanish Police and Civil Guard training academies
A delegation of representatives from the police academies and training centres of Haiti, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic have made a study visit to Spain, within the framework of the “Multi-Country Border Security Programme” (MCBS-EU) project, led by the FIIAPP and financed by the European Union.
The Caribbean region, where these countries are located, has achieved great socio-economic improvements in the last decade, but there has also been an increase in crime, with the level of violence being one of the highest in the world. The aim of the project is to improve regional security and combat human trafficking in the three partner countries by improving information exchange and border control.
In this context, the visit aims to enhance, through the exchange of experiences and best practices, the training programmes of the police forces of the three countries. During the days of the activity, visits and exchanges of experiences were made with the academies of the Guardia Civil in Baeza and the National Police in Avila, as well as the training centre for advanced police studies of the National Police in Madrid.
During the stay in Madrid, the project has also organised an exchange of experiences with operational units against organised crime, from the General Commissariats of the Scientific Police and the Judicial Police, both located in the Canillas Police Complex. The latest techniques in the field of transnational organised crime were discussed, especially in the fight against money laundering and human trafficking.
These visits are part of the MCBS project’s objectives to improve investigative skills through international information exchange, as well as the ongoing process of developing a new regulatory framework for police training schemes in partner countries.
