The FIIAPP, committed to regional development in Latin America

The Latin American Network of Public Policies for Regional Development (RED) has convened its 14 member countries to its 5th assembly meeting. A meeting that on this occasion took place during the European Week of Regions (EURegioWeek) in Brussels.

Anna Terrón Cusí, Director of the FIIAPP, was in charge of opening the meeting alongside Daniel Soto, Director of the Ministry of National Planning and Economical Policy (MIDEPLAN) of Costa Rica. RED emerged in 2013 to promote decentralisation and territorial cohesion within the framework of the EUROsociAL programme, funded by the European Union and managed by the Foundation. It also has the support of the OECD and ECLAC.

“RED is a reference for innovation in international relations. The joint work of the administrations, the exchange between peers on a specific policy and the involvement of stakeholders is an excellent example of the relevance of networks for the construction of shared agendas“, said Anna Terrón in her speech.

A way of working that coincides with that of EUROsociAL in particular and with that of the FIIAPP in general, according to its Director: “Networking is a hallmark of our activity” and contributes “to generating joint values, to building a region”.

The Ministry of National Planning and Economic Policy (MIDEPLAN) of Costa Rica currently chairs RED. Participants included representatives from member countries and institutions: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, Panama, Peru and Uruguay.

The work of the Latin American Network of Public Policies for Regional Development is carried out along thematic axes, chosen by the assembly every two years. In 2018-2019, it focuses on planning instruments for territorial planning, cross-border cooperation, native populations, innovation and territory, sustainable cities and geographic information systems and statistics.
