The FIIAPP, through its EUROsociAL II programme, participated in the 3rd LAC (Latin America and the Caribbean) Forum on Fiscal Policies in Montevideo, Uruguay.
The main theme of the forum was tax policy, a key issue for the region, focussing above all on the practical experiences of the Latin American countries in the use of taxation as a tool to reduce inequality.
The main objective of the LAC Forum on Fiscal Policies was to promote the exchange of experiences among those responsible for fiscal policies in LAC countries and experts from the Fiscal Affairs Committee, the Development Centre of the OECD, the ECLAC, the IDB and other international organisations, aimed at tackling the fiscal challenges faced by these countries at both regional and national level, including the regional programme for social cohesion in Latin America, EUROsociAL II.
The Forum is one of the main lines of work, a regional programme whose aim is to promote dialogue on fiscal policies in the region in order to facilitate the mobilisation of national resources through improvements in tax and public spending policies.
The FIIAPP was represented at the Forum by Ignacio Soleto, Coordinator of the Public Finances Area of EUROsociAL II, who took advantage of the invitation to present to the governments of the region, as well as the multi-lateral participants at the Forum, the actions which the EUROsociAL II Programme is undertaking in the region with regard to public revenue and spending.
