The EU and Mexico fight together against the proceeds of crime

Federal policemen and prosecutors participated in an activity in Mexico City aimed at strengthening the capacities of the operational services in charge of investigating the proceeds of crime, as well as a workshop on sharing experiences of the deprivation of criminal proceeds.  

With the support of EL PAcCTO, a transnational programme to fight organised crime funded by the European Union and managed by the FIIAPP, the Mexican institutions and the European Union seek to strengthen inter-institutional and international cooperation. In addition, it is intended to establish investigation and action procedures in terms of identifying criminal proceeds and facilitate the exchange of good practices between European and Latin American security forces.  

These workshops are based on the need to fight against organised crime and by extension, against the proceeds of crime. The objective is to obstruct sources of funding of criminal activities and reduce the profits of perpetrators.  

Participants therefore learned about different techniques for investigating proceeds from criminal activities such as drug trafficking. In this way, synergies were created between the different institutions involved in the investigations, and technical and operational procedures were standardised. In addition, a manual of good practices in identifying criminal proceeds was drawn up.
