Scientific research, cooperation with SMEs, digitisation and training, key for Egypt in 2021
The Strengthening the Egyptian Patent Office programme encourages the application of international standards for the improvement of the institutional, technical and awareness-raising capacities of the Egyptian Patent Office (EGYPO).
During 2021, the Egyptian patent programme carried out a series of activities to ensure that its objectives are met. Scientific research was very important this year. A strategic plan focusing on the research community of Egyptian universities and Research Centres was implemented.
Likewise, another of last year’s pillars for the implementation of the European project was cooperation and coordination with SMEs within the institutional framework, which was aimed, above all, at entrepreneurs in the country. A series of initiatives has been carried out, including the development of an awareness and application strategy aimed at SMEs.
Digitisation of public administrations is becoming increasingly noticeable. Last year, the project also focused on the transformation of the digitalisation of the Egyptian Patent Office, by creating a roadmap to harmonise systems in the Egyptian patent office and review the Quality Management System. All this has been done with specialists from the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office.
Of course, it is important to keep staff trained, so several train-the-trainer programmes were conducted for EGYPO staff, focusing on the national system and database searches. In this regard, procedures manuals have been created and made available to all the departments of the Administration.
