The successes achieved in the first three years have promoted the continuity of the project that fights the criminal networks of illegal immigration and human trafficking in Niger
ECI Niger is a pioneering initiative that began in 2017, laying the foundations for a different work model not seen before. It has served as a reference for the creation of other similar projects in the region. The aim is to accompany and train Nigerian national police services in investigation, intelligence and policing procedures. All this is done with the cooperation of experts from the Spanish National Police Force, the French Central Directorate of Border Policeand the French and Spanish Ministry of the Interior’s International Cooperation Departments.
Given the good results achieved during the project’s first three years of life, all stakeholders considered it pertinent to continue the actions already undertaken, which is why it has been extended for another three years, with a budget increase of 5.5 million euros.
The aim of this Project is to support the government of Niger in its fight against criminal networks related to illegal immigration, people trafficking and migrant smuggling in the country, while at the same time fostering the creation of an international mechanism of protection against these crimes. Furthermore, this new stage aims to reinforce the collaboration between international and regional counterpart authorities, and to further promote the relationship with the judicial part of the project.
ECI Niger is a project funded by the European Union through the Emergency Trust Fund for Africa and managed by the FIIAPP.
