Representatives of regional security agencies, forensic laboratories and experts from international organizations have met with the support of the European programs EU-ACT 2 and CADAP 7, managed by FIIAPP.
The event focused on the problem of drug and new psychoactive substances (NPS) use and trafficking among Central Asian youth, a phenomenon that is seriously affecting health and security in the region.
This meeting was organized by the Strategic Police Matters Unit of the Transnational Threats Department of the OSCE Secretariat (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe), in co-operation with the OSCE Program Office in Dushanbe, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan, the Drug Control Agency under the Presidency of the Republic of Tajikistan and the EU-ACT 2 and CADAP programs managed by FIIAPP.
The workshop has brought together representatives of regional law enforcement agencies, forensic laboratories and experts from international organizations who addressed the current situation of illicit drug trafficking and NPS in Central Asia. They discussed recent trends and their impact on youth drug use, as well as the social and public health consequences of these activities.
Participants analyzed the risk factors associated with drug supply and use, and explored effective preventive measures in other contexts. The exchange of good practices and intervention strategies adapted to the reality of Central Asia has been promoted.
The importance of international cooperation in the creation of early warning systems that allow for an effective exchange of information between countries was also emphasized. Experts in law, public health and security policies have offered recommendations on the current situation in their respective countries.
The CADAP program, led in its seventh phase by FIIAPP, promotes the development of effective, evidence-based drug demand reduction policies and best practices to strengthen the capacities of the governments of Central Asian countries to address the drug phenomenon in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.
The EU-ACT 2 program, managed by FIIAPP, plays a crucial role in strengthening institutional capacities in Central Asia to combat drug trafficking. In this context, the workshop was attended by Miguel de Domingo (SPD Area Director), Maria Sanchez (EU-ACT 2 Director) and Margarita de la Barga (Key Expert). Through its participation in workshops such as this one, EU-ACT 2 reaffirms its commitment to development and security in the region.
