FIIAPP and AECID run a project to work with judicial institutions of Mozambique to combat corruption
The cooperation project to support the fight against corruption in Mozambique started with a virtual presentation. More than 20 Mozambican public and private institutions related to the Justice sector and the fight against corruption took part in the event. This new project is jointly financed by the EU and the Spanish Agency for Development Cooperation (AECID) and managed by the latter in collaboration with FIIAPP.
During the event, the schedule of activities for this year was presented, which will begin with a diagnosis of risk of corruption. A team of Portuguese and Spanish specialists was also formed with participants from Portugal’s Supreme Judicial Council, Spain’s Ministry of Justice and the General Council of the Judiciary.
It also offered an opportunity to make progress developing mechanisms for coordination, management and exchange of information by creating a steering committee, with a political and strategic profile, and a coordination committee, with a technical profile. The Spanish magistrate was appointed as head of Component One “Strengthening judicial institutions”, who will work closely with Mozambican judicial institutions in Maputo.
Institutions in Mozambique such as the Supreme Court, the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic, the Office for Combating Corruption, the Ministry of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs, the National Criminal Investigation Service and the Mozambican Association of Judges took part in the event. Also in attendance were representatives of the Delegation of the European Union in Mozambique, the Cabinet of the National Office for cooperation between Mozambique and the European Union, of the Councils of the Magistracy of Spain Spanish and Portugal and the Spanish and Portuguese Ministries of Justice.
