The Mauritania security support project continues its activities to prevent conflict and reduce irregular migration.
Activity on the Senegal River (Mauritania)
The Support for security in Mauritania project held its first steering committee committee, in which FIIAPP representatives in the country informed the beneficiaries of the activities planned within the framework of the project.
The event was chaired by the director general of the territorial administration (DGAT) and representative of the coordination of the project in Mauritania, Mahi Ould Hamed and by Els Mortier, team leader of the European Union delegation in the country.
In addition to the meeting, the National Gendarmerie led an activity to raise awareness of the situation regarding surveillance, intervention and rescue in the Senegal River area. In this activity, the towns of N’Diago, Rosso, Bogué, Kaédi, M’Bagné were visited, reaching the town of Khabou Guidimaka on the river border with Mali.
The project, which is managed by FIIAPP, is financed by the Trust fund of the European Union for Africa and pursues the objective of improving coordination and conflict prevention and that of reducing forced displacement and irregular migration. Efforts to improve security management primarily focus on maritime security.
The main partners in the project are the National Gendarmerie, which reports to the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of the Interior and Decentralisation, the Coast Guard, which reports to the Ministry of Fisheries and the Maritime Economy, and the Mauritanian National Police, reporting to the Ministry of the Interior and Decentralisation.
