A delegation from Ukraine visited Spain to understand the reinsertion of drug addicts in our country
As part of the EU-ACT project , funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP, a study visit of senior officials from the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice to our country was conducted . This visit is part of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine’s Rehabilitation Programme for prisoners with mental disorders due to the use of psychoactive substances, one of the main initiatives that the EU-ACT project is supporting in this country.
During the visit, the Secretary General of Penitentiary Institutions of Spain, Ángel Luis Ortiz, welcomed this delegation at an institutional meeting in which he provided an overview of the national Penitentiary Institutions system. Treatment programmes for inmates were also explained.
The Ukrainian delegation was also introduced to Centro de Madrid IV, located in the municipality of Navalcarnero, where they visited the prison facilities. During the visit they learned about the voluntary rehabilitation programmes.
In addition, the Ukrainian delegation visited the NGO ‘BASIDA’, located in Aranjuez, a residential community that provides rehabilitation for drug addicts. Finally, in their visit they also explored a municipal centre focused on the social and psychological factors behind drug addiction.
Senior officials from the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice were present, including Deputy Minister of Justice Denys Viktorovych, as well as other senior administration officials participated in the activity. They were accompanied by experts who are implementing the aforementioned programme in Ukrainian prisons.
