The platform for the exchange of good practices in long-term climate strategies was consolidated in 2021 and is tackling 2022 with new themed sessions
The European Euroclima+ programme joins 13 Latin American countries in the exchange space on long-term climate strategies, located on the Connect platform, FIIAPP’s virtual space for training and collaborative work. It is a platform aimed at making lessons learned and cooperation between peers accessible, in order to strengthen the most ambitious climate policies in Latin America and reduce the common gaps in the planning and implementation of climate actions in the participating countries.
Since its inception in November 2020, 11 themed sessions have been held, bringing together representatives of the 13 participating countries: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.
The initiative arises from the launch of the Regional Collaboration for transparency and compliance with the NDCs and the creation of Long-Term Climate Strategies, which is being accompanied by the Euroclima+ programme, through FIIAPP , UN Environment, ECLAC and GIZ. This action originated in the Conference of the Parties number 24 in Poland (COP24), with the joint request of Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Uruguay to the European Union for support in strengthening capabilities that can enable the development of their long-term strategies. This seeks to increase capabilities for institutional and technical strengthening in the creation of models, forward planning of data, development of mitigation scenarios and climate vulnerability and risk analysis, as well as in the analysis of investment opportunities in adaptation to climate change and disruptive technologies that can motivate planning and climate action in the region.
The work sessions are structured around specific topics, which are addressed from the countries that have led processes in these areas. The participants can thus access experiences and learning that may be useful for similar processes.
