A group of experts from eight Asian counties training for a week in NBC techniques in Madrid
Practical exercise at the INTA laboratories
Asian experts have worked for a week to improve their capacity to respond to nuclear, biological and chemical threats. An activity organised by the NRBQ 46 Project, which is funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP.
The workshop took place at the INTA (National Institute of Aerospace Technology) campus in La Marañosa (Madrid), where the participants witnessed different practical exercises in relation to the analysis of components such as water or waste and the actions taken in relation to related risks.
The aim was to get to know the work chain of Spanish experts, who highlighted the importance of sharing expertise in this field. These are current global threats, whether they are deliberate, terrorist attacks or accidental. They also, therefore, affect the eight countries involved: Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, Laos (Lao), Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The Asian participants see these activities as an opportunity for training to improve the security of their home countries, where they had already received training to manage these risks.
However, this is the first time that a practical and joint workshop has been organised in Spain. The different professions represented by the participants included the police service, the military and health managers.
The project is part of the network of EU Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence (CBRN) in eight regions of the world.
