EUROsociAL, programme financed by the European Commission, through the FIIAPP and the Spanish Economic and Social Council (CES),haspromoted the second meeting of the CESALC Network, at which the Buenos Aires Charter and the network's governance model were approved.
The Economic and Social Council of the City of Buenos Aires was the venue for the 2nd Meeting of the Economic and Social Councils Network for Latin America and the Caribbean (CESALC). The meeting included participation by representatives of the councils of Brazil, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, the Dominican Republic, the Federal District of Brazil, Saint Martin, the State of Jalisco (Mexico), and Río Grande do Sul. Members of the Spanish Economic and Social Council and the European Economic and Social Committee attended as special guests.
The meeting was supported by EUROsociAL, within the Social Dialogue Thematic Area, which is coordinated by the FIIAPP with the Spanish CES as its operational partner. Since 2013, EUROsociAL, together with the Brazilian CEDES, has promoted the creation and consolidation of the CESALC Network.
The three working days were organized around the main axis of “Progress and challenges in Social Policies in Latin America and the Caribbean”, with an emphasis on addressing poverty.
Among other matters, the CESALC Network member countries approved the Buenos Aires Charter, the final document of the meeting, which contained the following noteworthy commitments:
The Network’s new governance model, the work plan for the next two years and the composition of the Management Committee were also approved at this forum, as well as the choice of the venue for the 3rd Meeting of the CESALC Network, which will take place in 2015.
