Recommendations were made at the closure of the twinning project to bring Serbian customs in line with EU regulation
The twinning project that has come to an end in Belgrade was aimed at creating conditions to strengthen the capacity of Serbia’s Customs Laboratory. After six months of work, Spanish experts together with their Serbian counterparts have presented the results obtained, as well as the recommendations and steps to be taken to continue contributing to project aims.
Specifically, two clear messages have emerged: the need for a modernised laboratory with new equipment and the need for legislation to be adapted to make possible the transition towards a space in which European standards are met.
This experience has raised great interest in the country, so the government aims to continue paving the way for the process to bring Serbia’s customs in line with EU regulation to enable a future project to last longer and have a bigger budget.
The closing event was attended by members of the Serbia Customs Administration Tariff Office, Spain’s ambassador to Serbia, the EU delegation in the country, the Department for Contracting and Financing of EU Funded Programmes (CFCU) attached to the Ministry of Finance and the Spanish Tax Office.
