SecTrans-NAS project comes to an end

On the occasion of the closing of the European SecTrans-NAS project, the main actors of the project met in Madrid with representatives of the participating countries, as well as with institutions and experts responsible for the implementation of the program.

During five days, the participants took part in activities such as practical training in the use of specialized software for the management of transport accidents involving hazardous chemicals. Country representatives were actively involved in the exercises.

At the same time, the national focal points visited different institutions such as the Nuclear Safety Council, the Madrid Fire Brigade and the Transport of Dangerous Goods Division of the Ministry of Transport and Mobility, in order to learn more about how they operate.

The closing of the event was attended by Anne-Sophie Lequarre, program manager of the European Union’s Centers of Excellence for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) risk reduction initiative, Larbi Lebbaz, director of the North Africa and Sahel Region Office, Rosario Boned, responsible for the Spanish implementation on behalf of the FIIAPP, as well as the national focal points of the project and the on-site technical advisor of the African Atlantic Front.

In his speech, Lequarre recalled the objective and structure of the European Union’s CBRN centers of excellence initiative and described the difficulties encountered, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic. He also congratulated the FIIAPP for its implementation of the project, as well as ADELFAS, the Polish Military Institute of Epidemiological Hygiene (MIHE) and the experts who participated in the program.

These experts, in charge of the working groups, shared several successes of the project, such as proposals for strengthening national legal frameworks, dangerous goods movement plans, good practice guides for those involved in the transport chain, safety plans…

For their part, the director of the regional office and the representative of the focal points shared their satisfaction with the actions carried out on the SecTransNAS market. Finally, the event ended with a video summary of the project.
