El Fondo ODM, creado por el Gobierno de España y el PNUD, ha mejorado las condiciones de vida de 9 millones de personas en todo el mundo. Naciones Unidas reconoce la experiencia del Fondo ODM, la iniciativa de cooperación más importante hecha por un solo país en beneficio de los Objetivos del Milenio.The MDG Fund, created by the Government of Spain and the UNDP, has improved living conditions for approximately 9 million people worldwide. The United Nations recognizes the MDG Fund as the most important cooperative initiative from any one single country to benefit the Millennium Goals.
The Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fundwas established in an agreement between the Government of Spain and the United Nations, through the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme), to improve living conditions for thousands of people living in extreme poverty throughout the world. After five years in operation, this fund has financed 130 joint programmes in 50 countries through the collaborative efforts of 27 UN agencies. It is considered to be one of the greatest international cooperation instruments for achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and the greatest contribution made by a single donor for this purpose in the history of the United Nations.
An act was held in the ECOSOC Chamber of the United Nations Conference Building on Wednesday, September 25th at 5:30 p.m., to assess the fund’s progress by studying the achieved results and analysing them as part of the new 2015 Development Agenda debate. Participants included Mariano Rajoy, President of the Government of Spain, Helen Clark, UNDP Administrator, and Irina Bokova, the General Director of UNESCO, among others.
