Promoting awareness of new psychotropic substances

The EU-ACT project has included in its Action Plan activities concerning new psychotropic substances (NPS). A phenomenon that is creating some concern, not only among the health services, but also among the institutions in charge of applying the law and responding to cases of illegal trafficking, due to the legal difficulties that prosecutors also face.  

For this reason, the project funded by the European Union and managed by the FIIAPP has organized, in Bishkek, a workshop to raise awareness about the fight against these psychotropic substances. An activity aimed at the institutions involved, such as police and tax agencies, and which has been taught by two experts in investigation and an EU prosecutor.  

Customs officers, police, investigators, prison officers, prosecutors and laboratories that analyse the samples, all have a vital role in the prevention of and fight against NPS. The objectives of the workshop include raising awareness about the phenomenon, supporting the identification of these substances, addressing associated legal issues and sharing procedures.  

The activity has already been organized in Georgia, Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan, and will soon take place in other countries where the project operates.
