The FIIAPP presented three publications on the progress in the fight against corruption in Latin America at the Centre for Political and Constitutional Studies, accompanied by the authors, during the closing speech by the Colombian Ambassador to Spain, Fernando Carrillo.

Transparency and the fight against corruptionis a shared goal between the European Union and Latin America. For this reason, EUROsociAL’s Democratic Institutions area, programme financed by the European Commission, coordinated by the FIIAPP and the CEDDET Foundation, is working to strengthen public policies to fight corruption in Latin America, in some cases based on European experiences.
Among other results of this work, three publications came out several months ago reflecting the knowledge and best practices resulting from the collaboration between countries in the two regions within the framework of EUROsociAL. These three publications were presented at the Centre for Political and Constitutional Studies (CEPC) in the presence of almost all of the authors, the Colombian Ambassador in Spain and the directors of the CEPC, FIIAPP and CEDDET, Benigno Pendás, Pedro Flores and Miguel Ángel Feito, respectively.
“Programmes and public policies for preventing corruption in the private sector”,“Corruption complaint and complainant protection systems in Latin America and Europe” and “Criminal and administrative liability of legal persons in crimes of corruption”,are the titles of the three studies conducted by Spanish and Latin American experts on the general theme of best practices in the fight against corruption.
They address the importance of strengthening policies for transparency and citizen access to information to achieve greater accountability by public actors; and the need for better inter-agency coordination and social collaboration in the fight against corruption in accordance with the national plans and international commitments of the countries in the region. In addition, these projects stress the enhancement of corruption whistle-blowing and whistle-blower protection mechanisms, as well as the promotion of initiatives to achieve greater ethics and corporate responsibility.
The presentation was made in the company of some of the authors, Silvina Bacigalupo, Professor of Criminal Law at the Autonomous University of Madrid, Jesús Lizcano Álvarez, Professor of Financial Economy and Accounting at the Autonomous University of Madrid and President of Transparency International Spain; and Franz Chevarría, an international expert on the fight against corruption.
