The international cooperation project in the Horn of Africa region and Yemen is announced at the official kick-off event held in Nairobi.
In Nairobi, Kenya, the project for the application of the rule of law in the Horn of Africa and Yemen was presented. This project aims to enhance the capacities of the intelligence services and security forces, as well as those of the prosecutor’s offices and courts, in the Horn of Africa region and Yemen for the purpose of responding to potential security threats.
The project has an anticipated duration of four years and is funded by the European Commission with a budget of €11 million. The institution assigned to manage this project is the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP), as the lead partner, and it will work in collaboration with three other European institutions: Sustainable Criminal Justice Solutions (SCJS) of the United Kingdom, CIVIPOL Conseil of France, and the Carabinieri of Italy.
For the implementation of the project, support will be provided by Spain’s Civil Guard, National Police Force and State Prosecutor’s Office, as well as by experts from the other collaborating international institutions. Five of these international experts will work on a permanent basis at the project headquarters opened in Nairobi.
The kick-off event was attended by a total of 60 people and co-chaired by the ambassadors of Spain, Italy, France and the European Union to Kenya, along with a representative of the Kenyan government.
