The 1st Course on Gender Violence for AMERIPOL aimed to exchange knowledge on the protection of victims of gender violence

Police officers and prosecutors specialising in cases of violence against women in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Panama, Paraguay and Peru were present at the First International Course on Investigation of Gender-based Violence Offences, held in Ecuador, where knowledge was exchanged with experts from the National Police of Spain, the Guardia Civil, Judicial Power and FIIAPP.
On this course, held within the framework of the Support to AMERIPOL, funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP, a draft was drawn up of the Police Protocol for the Investigation of the Crime of Gender Violence for AMERIPOL, which is expected to come into force at the beginning of 2019.
The police action consists of team work with an interdisciplinary, inclusive approach with a gender perspective and that is committed to the fundamental objective of not revictimising the victim.
The Ambassador of the European Union in Ecuador, Marianne van Steen, attended the opening of the course, while the director against Organised Crime and related crimes of the Ministry of the Interior of Ecuador, John Game, attended the close.
FIIAPP has been implementing the Support for AMERIPOL project since its first phase in 2011. The current project, linked to the EL PAcCTO Assistance Programme against Transnational Organised Crime, has the general objective of strengthening the international cooperation capacities of the police, judicial and fiscal bodies of the partner countries in the fight against organised crime, in addition to consolidating AMERIPOL as a reference in police cooperation both in Latin America and in the European Union.
