Pakistan, a key country in the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime in South Asia

The European Union (EU) action project against drugs and organized crime (EU-ACT) held a meeting with more than 30 senior officials from Pakistan and the European Union. At the meeting, it was agreed to initiate close cooperation with the institutions related to the reduction of demand and supply of drugs in the country, such as the Ministry of Narcotic Drugs Control; Pakistan’s anti-narcotics force; Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Commission for Higher Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Following the success of the meeting, it is planned to start working in support of the Government of Pakistan to address the issue of drugs. This project will work with the Ministry of Narcotics Control and other relevant parties, in order to identify the most urgent and important measures to be taken to prevent and combat drug trafficking, and also to reduce the demand for drugs in Pakistan.
The project, funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP, aims to convey the EU’s comprehensive and balanced approach to drugs, to improve the effectiveness and operational cooperation of the institutions responsible for combating drug trafficking. It also promotes the improvement of institutional synergies for combating organized and serious international crime.
