Up to 24 organisations committed to the cause have participated in a discussion in favour of restorative justice, which was attended by FIIAPP
The Colombian Attorney General’s Office has launched the Pact for the Humanisation of Deprivation of Liberty Systems through restorative justice.
Restorative justice is an alternative model for justice that focusses its attention on the needs of the victims and the damage caused to them, as well as on the responsibilities of the perpetrators of the crime, instead of simply focussing on punishment. The so-called “dialogue that restores lives” is, thus, an invitation to search for ways to humanise this process through jointly-agreed tasks.
For five months, the 24 committed to the cause have worked to humanise the prison system and bring about more victim-centred justice.
In his speech, Colombia’s Attorney General, Fernando Carrillo, expressed his commitment to a return to ethics: “defending human rights and the lives of people deprived of their liberty is a commitment involving everyone.”
The event was also attended by the director of FIIAPP, which is ready to continue supporting the process of change in the country. Pedro Flores has spoken of the “construction of shared values, with a continual sharing of experiences between public administrations”. And he took the opportunity to mention the European projects that the Foundation is managing in Colombia: EUROsociAL, EL PAcCTO, COPOLAD and ACTUE Colombia.
Likewise, FIIAPP has signed a general agreement with the Attorney General’s Office, as part of its commitment to a model of cooperation to assist the institution in its reform agenda.
