EUROCLIMA+ promotes the creation of a calculation tool that will enable SMEs to reduce emissions related to biomass consumption.

The testing phase has been launched for the Energy Efficiency programme’s “Calculation Tool”, promoted in Paraguay by the Vice Ministry of Mines and Energy and the Ministry of the Environment with support from the Euroclima+ programme. This tool will enable small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) in four agro-industrial sectors to carry out energy consumption self-diagnostics allowing them to adopt measures for the efficient use of biomass.
It is an innovative instrument that is being developed with the help of FIIAPP within the framework of the Euroclima+ programme, which will be available soon on the website of the Paraguayan Vice Ministry of Mines and Energy.
The tool will make it easier for agro-industrial SMEs in the ceramics, yerba mate, chicken farming and grain drying sectors to carry out energy consumption simulations free of charge and with the option of receiving technical assistance.
The self-diagnosis facilitated by the new tool will allow companies to identify their peak energy consumption and, based on this, estimate how to reduce consumption during their production processes. The data obtained will provide them with a first estimate of the economic and environmental benefits that may be gained by applying energy efficiency measures, thus, favouring investment by SMEs in technologies that enable them to use less biomass (firewood, coal, etc.) and in turn, achieve economic savings and reduce their CO2 emissions, benefitting the environment.
The event, which was attended by the directors from the Vice Ministry of Mines and Energy National Directorate of Climate Change and Alternative Energies, as well as the deputy head of Cooperation for the European Union delegation in Paraguay, included the presentation of the programme’s action framework and the prototype for the tool.
