A high-level Moroccan delegation has visited Spain to learn about good Spanish practices in prevention and fight against racism and xenophobia
Moroccan delegation with the Spanish counterpart institutions at the headquarters of the Secretary of State for Migration in Madrid
This visit to Madrid has been organized as part of the ‘ Living Together without Discrimination project. Representatives from the Delegated Ministry for Moroccan Residents Abroad and Migration Affairs (MDCMREAM), the Ministry of Justice, the Moroccan Embassy in Madrid, the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH) and from the project’s office in Rabat saw first-hand the range of initiatives that Spain has launched to address racism, xenophobia and racial discrimination against the migrant population.
The Moroccan delegation was received at the headquarters of the State Secretariat for Migration by representatives from the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Social Security, the Spanish International Development Cooperation Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (AECID), European Union and Cooperation, and the International Foundation for Administration and Public Policies for Ibero-America (FIIAPP).
Likewise, several work sessions were held during the visit with representatives from the Centre for Sociological Research (CIS), the Madrid Municipal Police Unit for the Management of Diversity, the Council of Hate Crimes and Discrimination Victims, the NGO Movement against Intolerance, and the Ombudsman.
For its part, the Spanish Observatory on Racism and Xenophobia (OBERAXE) organized several institutional meetings and gatherings in which the Moroccan delegation was able to meet with the heads of the General Integration and Humanitarian Aid Directorate, the Spanish Racism and Xenophobia Observatory, the the General Council of the Judiciary, the Public Prosecutor’s Office special delegation for hate crimes and discrimination, and the National Office of Hate Crimes of the Ministry of the Interior’s State Security Secretariat.
This visit to our country is an example of the cooperation between the Kingdoms of Morocco and Spain that aims to address the challenges posed by migration, as well as to share and exchange experiences around public policies in this regard.
This activity was part of the delegated cooperation project “Living together without discrimination: a gender-aware approach based on human rights”, funded by the European Union through the EU Emergency Fund for Africa. Led by AECID, the project is supported by FIIAPP and by OBERAXE, part to the State Secretariat for Migration.
