Within the framework of the European EUROsociAL program, a workshop was held with the participation of Mexican public and private stakeholders.
Forty officials from different areas of Mexican government met in Mexico City to participate in a workshop on tax dispute prevention and resolution.
The objective of the workshop was to present in detail an initiative that the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT), the European program EUROsociAL and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) have been developing since 2022: to present a model of good practices on tax dispute prevention and resolution, known as the maturity model.
In order to learn about good practices from different countries in the areas covered by the Maturity Model, experiences from Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, Peru, the IDB and the IMF were presented. As a result of the sharing during the meeting, the maturity model will be optimized before moving on to the implementation stage.
In addition, the activity included a meeting of representatives of Mexican companies and tax advisors who were able to discuss critical issues related to the prevention and resolution of tax disputes.
The activity took place at the headquarters of the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED), one of the sponsoring organizations along with CIAT, the IDB, the Tax Administration Service (SAT), and the EUROsociAL program itself. Representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) also participated.
Among the main conclusions of the activity, the need to improve the design of tax rules and procedures, harmonize criteria to provide consistency in the service or define mechanisms that allow for a better understanding of businesses by the tax administration, among others, stood out.
