EUROsociAL+ and the Transparency and Access to Information Network launch the model that together with its first measurement were presented in Johannesburg

This model has been developed by the Transparency and Access to Information Network (TAIN) with the support of the EUROsociAL+ programme, which is financed by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP.
The central theme of this year’s International Information Commissioners Conference was “international cooperation to improve the right to access information“. The conference was held in Johannesburg and was attended by delegates from over 30 countries.
The model for measuring the right to access public information in Latin America was presented within this conference, it allows the evolution in different aspects related to transparency policy and access to information to be quantified. It is a tool to identify the challenges, deficits and strengths in the transparency policies of the countries that make up TAIN, as well as providing comparable information.
The Model has three dimensions: Resources, which measures the recognition and guarantees regarding the right to access information; Processes, which measures the level of inclusion and Results, which calibrates the results in implementing transparency policies.
In addition to presenting the model, the first successful measurement of the resources and processes dimensions was carried out for eleven countries during the conference, namely: Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Uruguay.
