The national nuclear, biological and chemical team (NBC) of Mali and the project specialists have met to set the main lines of work in the country

This first meeting made it possible to identify the main interlocutors, gather key information about the road transport of hazardous materials in Mali and initiate different ways of collaboration.
The country’s particularities in terms of security have promoted the project’s great reception by the Malian authorities. One of the specificities of the country, highlighted at the meeting, revolves around the importance of trade flows and road transport with countries that make up the African Atlantic seaboard. For all these reasons, forms of synergy and cooperation were proposed that go beyond the region of North Africa and the Sahel.
In legislative matters, programme specialists defined ways of working to move towards international standards without undermining the economic interests of the country.
Both parties concluded the meeting with the firm commitment to promote an exchange of information in the interests of working to ensure that both the next scheduled workshops and the following actions contribute to the success of the project.
The SecTrans-Nas project, funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP, focuses on safety and protection in the carriage of chemical and biological materials in North Africa and the Sahel region. The initiative was launched by the European Union in 2010. Its objective is the prevention, preparation and post-crisis management of CBRN incidents (chemical, bacteriological, radiological or nuclear). These maybe of criminal origin (trafficking, theft, proliferation, sabotage), accidental (industrial disasters, waste treatment) or natural (pandemics, etc.).
