The activity had the collaboration of the General Directorate of Protection and Emergencies of the Community of Madrid
To increase efficiency in managing natural and man-made disasters in the southern Mediterranean countries. With this objective, the European Union finances PPRD South III. In addition, the project seeks to reduce the social, economic and environmental costs of these disasters and its basis for implementation derives from the results of the PPRD South Programme and the Civil Protection Mechanism of the European Union (UCPM). The project is developed in Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia.
Within the framework of this project in whose management the FIIAPP participates, several participants involved in the panorama of the structure of Spanish, French and Italian civil protection have participated in a seminar in Madrid.
The focus of the meeting was on the activity and organization of volunteers. In addition, a working table has been set up for participants to identify the most important topics, which will be the subject of upcoming seminars.
The seminar was held at the National School of Civil Protection and, in addition to the training and discussion sessions, the participants and the project team visited the Practice Range, where training exercises are carried out in relation to fires and dangerous material, water, accidents, landslides and collapsed structures.
The activity finished with a visit to the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies, the National Centre for Emergency Monitoring and Coordination and the Madrid 112 Security and Emergency Agency.
The PPRD South III project has two specific objectives. On the one hand, to develop national approaches to disaster management based on prevention, mitigation and preparedness rather than response, with the participation of all relevant government actors, as well as civil society stakeholders.
On the other hand, to improve coordination and interregional and regional cooperation, to have coordinated responses from the countries of the Mediterranean basin affected by the same disaster, and to strengthen institutional cooperation between the UCPM and the civil protection agencies of the partner countries.
