“LIVING TOGETHER WITHOUT DISCRIMINATION” MAKES PROGRESS IN STRENGTHENING THE CAPACITIES OF PARTNER INSTITUTIONS IN GENDER EQUALITY

The delegated cooperation project “Living together without discrimination, an approach based on human rights and gender”, financed by the European Union Trust Fund, has been working to prevent and fight racial and ethnic discrimination, and racism and xenophobia towards the immigrants in Morocco.

The FIIAPP is responsible for assisting the consortium and its teams with their work to integrate the gender perspective into the project. The objective is to better understand situations of inequality  between men and women, highlighting these and working to try to eliminate them. Intersectionality is also part of this approach, which allows a structural and multiple analysis of the discrimination experienced by people due to the combination of several factors such as sex, race, ethnicity, skin colour, etc.

Taking this intersectional approach, the FIIAPP has organised a three-day training workshop to strengthen capacity in the public institutions that make up the consortium. In Spain, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the Spanish Observatory of Racism and Xenophobia (OBERAXE) and the International Latin American Foundation for Public Administrations and Public Policies and in Morocco; the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and the Delegated Ministry of the Foreign Affairs Ministry in charge of African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad.

So far, the FIIAPP has created a set of tools, resulting from a gender diagnosis, which analyses inequalities between men and women in all the project’s processes and at all its decision-making levels. Based on this work, the project has launched a Gender Action Plan, which includes different actions aimed at guaranteeing the inclusion of a gender perspective. Capacity building, creating monitoring and evaluation tools, compiling reliable data broken down by sex, and forging strong alliances with key agents, are among the initiatives being worked on with Moroccan public institutions and social agents.
