The European project EU ACT 2 has carried out a preparatory mission in Nairobi (Kenya) with the aim of identifying needs and demands in the thematic areas covered by the project.
During the meetings in Nairobi, the EU ACT 2 project, managed by FIIAPP of the Spanish Cooperation, has brought together significant entities such as the East African Police Chiefs Corporation (EAPCCO), the Anti-Drug Unit of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Public Prosecution Office (PPO), the Kenya Judicial Academy, and the National Agency for Combating Drug Abuse (NACADA), among others.
These meetings have addressed several key issues for the project, such as the analysis of the threat and evolution of drugs in general and synthetic drugs in particular in the region, the harmonization of legal frameworks, the strengthening of cross-border investigations, capacity building of police units from intelligence gathering to training, the strengthening of judicial capacities and mutual legal assistance in the countries of the region, the development of drug observatories, the links between organized crime and other threats, as well as continued support for the increased participation of women in the police and judicial spheres.
EU ACT 2 has met with other EU-funded projects such as the Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism in Eastern, Southern and Central Africa (AML- CFT ESCAY), Enhancing Africa’s Response to Transnational Organized Crime (ENACT), and Regional Operational Center in Khartoum (ROCK) with the aim of identifying synergies and complementarities.
EU ACT 2 focuses on the priorities identified in the relevant EMPACT operational action plans, in particular high-risk criminal networks (HRCN), cannabis, cocaine and heroin (CCH), and synthetic drugs and new psychoactive substances (SYD-NPS).
