The expert mission, made possible by the European programme CADAP 7, has participated in conferences and working group meetings on educational packages.
A group of Polish drug prevention experts met with national partners from Central Asia in Kazakhstan in the framework of the European project CADAP 7. The aim was to discuss the latest findings in the field, as well as to present effective educational programmes in the prevention of drug use among young people.
The event brought together five Central Asian countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The delegations, from the Ministries of Health, Education and Science, Interior and international organisations, shared with the experts their research and different points of view on crucial issues in drug prevention, with a special focus on schools and educational institutions.
The experts explored the possibilities of incorporating practical, evidence-based prevention and treatment methods into their educational programmes. Divided into mixed working groups, the professionals discussed the current situation in prevention, existing problems, gaps, challenges and specific needs on which education programmes should be based.
As a result of this initiative, the following educational packages are expected to be developed and introduced in Central Asian countries:
– Drug prevention curriculum for postgraduate training.
– Interventions focused on stigma reduction.
– Guidelines for a selective prevention programme targeting women and vulnerable groups.
