Meetings were held with Spanish and European institutions under the project to strengthen the Rule of Law in the region

High-ranking judicial representatives from the Horn of Africa visited Madrid to hold meetings with the Office of the Prosecutor-General of the State and the National Court. The meeting was part of the project for the application of the Rule of Law in the region. Its purpose is to offer support with strengthening the abilities of the intelligence services and law enforcement agencies, and of the public prosecutors and courts of these countries.
This regional project is financed by the European Union, through the Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace (IcSP), and managed by FIIAPP. Its ultimate aim is to strengthen the role of the Rule of Law against possible threats to security and terrorism in particular. In addition, it has three specialist European institutions as the main partners; Sustainable Criminal Justice Solutions (SCJS) from the United Kingdom, CIVIPOL from France and the Carabinieri from Italy.
The meeting, which was held at the Office of the Prosecutor-General, looked at good practices and problems in the methodology for investigating cases of terrorism, the use of international legal cooperation instruments to combat terrorism and the commitment of this institution to international cooperation.
In the delegations from Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Somalia and Djibouti included prosecutors-general, Presidents of the Supreme Court’s, directors-general of the Ministries of Justice and international cooperation officials.
The delegations also met in Brussels with the European Commission Directorate-General for Development Cooperation (DEVCO), the European External Action Service (EEAS), and with other related European institutions (EUROJUST, EUROPOL and ECTC).
