IT tools training for Niger police forces

The Directorate of Territorial Surveillance of Niger (DST) has organised, with support from the ECI Niger project, a training course aimed at about twenty police officers from Niamey, Zinder, Tahoua, Agadez, Konni, Maradi, Arlit and Gaya on the use of computer tools applied to their work. 

The training has provided the participants with theoretical and practical knowledge of these computer tools so they can carry out their daily work in the best possible way, in particular the protection and management of operational data, writing minutes and reports. It has also made it possible to standardise the capacities of police officers in information technology. After this basic training, a more in-depth course will be carried out. 

According to the explanations given by the Nigerien Police Commissioner Abdoul Salam Moumouni, the head of the Special Investigations Division within the Directorate of Territorial Surveillance “this training course aims to strengthen the professional capacities of the police officers who serve in the DST. This involves territorial surveillance work carried out at a central and decentralised level”. Likewise, he highlighted the role of the DST in the framework of the ECI-Niger project, as it is the operational backbone of the project. For this reason, the use of computer tools is essential to fulfilling its missions. 

The Spanish Police Commissioner, Fernando Guerrero, the ECI-Niger project manager recalled that: “This training is part of the ECI-Niger project funded by the European Union and implemented in Niger since April 2017 by the Spanish foundation FIIAPP. The project’s mission is to contribute to dismantling migrant smuggling, human trafficking and document fraud networks in Niger and in the sub-region, in collaboration with the authorities in the countries concerned”.
