The training workshop held in Baghdad was attended by specialists from the Police, Civil Guard, Carabinieri and CIVIPOL.
The European cooperation program CT-Just has organized a training event in Baghdad to strengthen the fight against terrorism in Iraq. The program, carried out in collaboration with the Delegation of the European Union to Iraq and the EU Advisory Mission to Iraq (EUAM), aims to improve the skills of Iraqi police forces and ensure that their operations are in line with international standards of human rights and international law.
With a practical and technical approach, the workshops have sought to prepare agents to face the current challenges of terrorism, incorporating the use of advanced technologies and ensuring respect for human rights and privacy. The organizers emphasized the importance of using effective investigative methods that meet international standards, focusing on obtaining admissible evidence through Special Investigative Techniques (SIT).
This initiative underscores the commitment of Iraq and its international allies to global security and justice, balancing the need to combat terrorism with fundamental respect for human rights.
During these days, several interviews and meetings have also been held with senior representatives of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior on training and capacity building. Professional communication between key stakeholders has been crucial to foster international cooperation, share best practices, discuss legal frameworks and reflect on the role of police officers in the investigation of counter-terrorism cases.
The workshops have improved law enforcement capabilities in Iraq and built a professional service in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This achievement has been made possible through the creation of a strong legal framework for the use of Special Investigative Techniques (SIT) and the promotion of increased international cooperation in the fight against terrorism. The critical importance of specialized training, international collaboration and compliance with legal standards and human rights have been recognized as fundamental elements in strengthening counter-terrorism efforts.
