Improving safety in the transport of dangerous goods in Morocco

The transport of dangerous goods can pose a risk to public health and the environment. Therefore, addressing the recommendations to improve the safety of all methods of transport: road, rail, inland waterways, sea and air, is a fundamental issue for institutions. With this objective in mind, the Ministry of Public Works of Spain, together with the management of FIIAPP, is developing the following Twinning project in Morocco: “Improving safety in the transport of dangerous goods by road on the basis of the ADR international regulatory framework”.

Within the framework of this project, funded by the European Commission, the fourth study visit to Switzerland was organized by Moroccan officials of the Ministry of Equipment, Transport and Logistics and Water (METLE) and a representative from the Ministry of Mines of the Kingdom of Morocco.

With the intention of strengthening the capacity of all public agents involved in the transport of dangerous goods by road in Morocco, officials participated in a meeting of the Subcommittee of Experts on the transport of said goods in which such recommendations for their transport are drawn up.

In addition, the representative from the Ministry of Mines participated in the working sessions on explosives that were held in parallel to and outside the plenary of the Subcommittee session.

The objective of this activity is to support Morocco in the integration of the work carried out at the United Nations and promote an active and responsible role in the implementation of the European Agreement Concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road. (ADR).

The purpose of this twinning project is to improve transport safety and strengthen structures and activities related to the transport of dangerous cargoes by road. All this, with the assistance of experts from the Spanish Ministry of Public Works who will work with their counterparts from the Moroccan Ministry of Transport.
