FIIAPP kicks off a new project financed by the European Commission to strengthen the probation system in Croatia.
FIIAPP held the kick-off of the Twinning project entitled ‘Support to further development and strengthening of the Probation Service in Croatia’, which will be implemented for more than one year in the country.
This project, managed by FIIAPP and financed by the European Commission with a grant of €700,000, is aimed at developing the institutional capacities of the probation service. For more than a year and a half, experts from Spain’s General Secretariat of Prisons, in collaboration with Germany, will work jointly with their Croatian counterparts in providing training to probation officers. Additionally, a pilot electronic surveillance project will be implemented, and efforts will be made to raise awareness in society of the benefits of non-custodial alternatives from both an economic and social standpoint.
The project kick-off, which was attended by some of the experts who will be managing the project from Spain and Germany, was led by the Croatian Minister of Justice and the Spanish Ambassador to Croatia.
