Four Latin American countries find out about the Spanish and Dutch experience in fighting tax evasion
In the second week of May, the Spanish State Tax Administration Agency (AEAT) organised an exchange visit on fiscal intelligence for representatives from the tax authorities of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Paraguay. The aim was to find out about the most advanced experiences within Europe, such as those of the Netherlands and Spain, and to share the status of reforms in each one of the countries in this sphere of tax administration.
Fiscal Intelligence is understood to mean all the data and information which reveal to the Tax Authority the situation of tax risks in both a general and a specific manner; and for the execution of preventive or repressive control activities in the execution of its legal attributions, particularly to combat tax evasion, tax avoidance and contraband.
This activity forms part of the action of Promotion of the voluntary fulfilment of tax obligations, which is coordinated by the Technical Public Finances Unit of the FIIAPP and executed by a group of partners of the Programme, which include the Spanish State Tax Administration Agency (AEAT) and the Panamanian Inter-American Tax Administration Centre, as well as the Spanish Institute for Fiscal Studies as the financial operating partner.
The initiative continues a line of work begun in the first EUROsociAL phase and includes different activities such as exchange visits, consultancies and internships in different spheres related to tax management.
