Together with the International Labour Organisation, the SOCIEUX+ programme has worked to promote green employability in Uruguay
Green jobs are those that reduce the environmental impact of companies and various economic sectors to reach more sustainable levels, as defined by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). At a time when climate change and the degradation of the environment are a global threat, the European Union has established a roadmap to provide the region with a sustainable economy:The European Green Deal, an agreement in which green employability plays a fundamental role.
Aware of the importance the Green Deal has for employment, the European cooperation programme SOCIEUX+ is actively working with public institutions to address the challenges posed by the transition to a green economy.
Among its actions, the project has organised an introductory workshop on green jobs in association with the International Labour Organisation (ILO). An activity carried out at the request of Uruguay’s Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
The aim is to recognise the context and strategies for promoting green jobs for a just transition in Uruguay in order to become familiar with the tools and good practices that seek to promote such jobs and apply concepts and approaches to jobs that contribute to preserving and restoring the environment in the workplace.
Two Spanish specialists took part in one of the workshop sessions, addressing the possibilities of improving job placement through dual training. This cooperation was made possible by the work of the FIIAPP, which has promoted the internationalisation of the Spanish public administration, a task which has been key to ensuring that there is a community of practices and joint knowledge aimed at achieving decent jobs and respectful of the environment.
SOCIEUX+, a European Union initiative promoting social protection, work and employment, is a technical cooperation instrument established and co-funded by the European Union. Based on a peer exchange model, SOCIEUX+ shares European knowledge and experiences through short-term missions, usually led by experts from different public administrations.
The programme offers technical assistance to over 155 countries, meeting their needs in terms of social protection and employment policy through activities organised on request. It is put into practice by an association led by Expertise France (EF), FIIAPP, the Belgian International Cooperation for Social Protection (BELINCOSOC) and the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel).
