The science museums of Granada and Tunis are twinned thanks to the Tunisian Science and Innovation capacity building support project
A moment during the visit to the City of Science in Tunis
Granada and Tunis are today closer together. The science museums of both cities have signed an agreement that seals their twinning for the development and promotion of the social communication of science. This action is part of the project to support the strengthening of capacities in the field of Science and Innovation in Tunisia, financed by the European Union and managed by the FIIAPP with the support of the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Embassy of Spain in Tunisia.
The City of Science of Tunisia is already planning its planetarium ‘Travelling with Light‘, produced by the Granada Science Park. It is the first Spanish planetarium programme translated into Arabic to be exhibited in Africa. The objective of this audiovisual creation, which delves into the transcendence of light for life on Earth and for a deeper knowledge of the universe, is to promote scientific vocations and increase interest in science and technology in society.
The director of FIIAPP, Anna Terrón , has appealed to science and innovation as tools to build bridges between societies. “Thanks to cooperation, as of today the lights of Granada can be seen from Tunis. And this is the result of the leveraging of the knowledge and experience of the people who work in these two institutions, an exchange that will also bear fruit in our country”, she stated.
The director of the Science Park , Luis Alcalá, highlighted the importance of this action for the internationalisation of the Science Park and for its consolidation as a benchmark for science education and communication both in Europe and in Africa.
The 29-minute programme ‘Travelling with the Light’ is set in a home where a woman with extensive scientific knowledge transmits her passion for science to her son in an informative way, on a journey that uncovers the importance of light for humans, from prehistory through to its existing applications. The theme of the programme praises the role of women in science and the importance of their work in spreading this knowledge while seeking to promote STEAM vocations in children.
