The event took place within the framework of the twinning project to strengthen the Capacity of the Georgia State Insurance Supervision Service
The Georgia International Insurance Conference is the most important event in the country’s insurance and reinsurance market. The event is a high-level platform for exchanging knowledge on the subject and establishing professional networking within the framework of the twinning project that seeks to strengthen the insurance sector in Georgia.
After the success of the first conference held in 2019, this year’s meeting addressed the most important issues that lie ahead in the local insurance industry. Due to health and safety restrictions, the conference took place virtually.
Local and foreign insurance and reinsurance companies, brokers and IT providers took part in the event, joined by representatives from public authorities, supervisory bodies, financial institutions and professional insurers. All taking part pooled their efforts, sharing their knowledge to support the sustainable development of the insurance sector and thus increase its role in the local economy.
Special attention was paid this year to the industry’s performance during the health crisis. Topics such as the challenges of health insurance during the pandemic, claim control costs and digitisation were of special importance during the conference.
FIIAPP, as implementer of the European Union-financed twinning project supported the organisation of the event. The twinned Spanish institution, the General Directorate of Insurance and Pension Funds (DGSFP) took part in the meeting in the person of Francisco Carrasco, Deputy Director General of Regulation and International Relations of the DGSFP and one of the main project experts, who outlined the Spanish approach to the sector in times of pandemic and the support provided to Georgia in the twinning framework.
