During the meeting an analysis of the achievements to date was conducted, and forthcoming activities were set out
After one and a half years of the A-TIPSOM project, the first meeting of the steering committee was held to take stock of achievements and plan further activities.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Nigerian Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning in Abuja, and was attended by the project’s main governmental partners: NAPTIP (National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons), NIS (Nigeria Immigration Service), NPF (Nigeria Police Force), and civil society, represented by NACTAL (Network of Civil Society organization against Child trafficking, abuse and labour).
In addition to the Nigerian counterparts, the European Union delegation in Nigeria, the Spanish Embassy in Nigeria, and the A-TIPSOM team from both the Madrid headquarters and the Abuja office also participated.
The main achievements during the first stage of the project, according to Nigerian partners, were: improved collaboration and coordination between the different Nigerian agencies involved in the fight against the smuggling of migrants and trafficking in persons; and the institutionalisation of communication between government agencies and civil society, such as NGOs.
The annual plan was approved unanimously by those present, under the supervision of the Nigerian Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning.
In summary, the first meeting of the A-TIPSOM project steering committee not only reflected the commitment of the counterparts to future activities, but has also served to evaluate the good health of the project.
About the project
The A-TIPSOM project, financed by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP, aims to reduce human trafficking and illegal trafficking of migrants. To this end, specialists from the Spanish National Police will work for four years to improve national, regional and international cooperation.
